India Placed at 3rd Position in RECAI report

Global organization EY on 10 May 2016 released the Renewable energy country attractiveness index (RECAI) 2016. The report reveals 40 countries on the attractiveness of their renewable energy investment and deployment opportunities based on a number of Indicators.

The emerging markets now represent half of the countries in the 40-strong index, including four African markets featuring in the top 30. Index was topped by the United States (US) and was followed by China at 2nd position and India at 3rd position. The ranking is given based on a number of macro, energy market and technology-specific indicators.

Ashwin, The Advanced Air Defence interceptor missile successfully test fired

Indigenously developed Advanced Air Defence (AAD) interceptor missile, Ashwin has been successfully test fired from the complex of Adbul Kalam Island (formerly known as Wheeler Island) in Balasore district off Odisha coast. AAD interceptor missile Ashwin is the advanced version of low altitude supersonic ballistic interceptor missile.

It is indigenously developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and is capable of destroying any incoming hostile ballistic missile. With this successful test India became the fourth country in the world to have full-fledged multi-layer Ballistic Missile defence system. Other three countries are United States, Russia and Israel.

Venkaiah Naidu launched 15 day 'Swachh Office drive'

As an accelerated thematic campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission, a 15-day special 'Swachh Office Drive' for ensuring cleanliness at all Government offices across the country has been launched. While launching the drive, Minister of Urban development M.Venkaiah Naidu planted a Neem sapling at Nirman Bhawan and inspected the building for about an hour for an on the spot assessment of sanitation.

The Minister visited different corridors of the building, individual rooms, toilets, storage places, water tanks and solar panels on the terrace of the building etc. and verified maintenance registers.

India Post geo-tagged on the indigenous Geo-Portal BHUVAN

Indian Postal Department enhanced their services to Hi-tech by geo-tagging the post offices and has started to monitor the timely clearance of the letter boxes through a mobile application. With the support of the Department of Space, India Post has geo-tagged over 1.5 lakh post offices on the indigenous Geo-Portal called BHUVAN.

It is an Initiative to make use of Department of Space in different sectors. BHUVAN was Established in 2009 with simple display of satellite data and basic GIS functionality, now has more than 6,000 map services which are being used under various applications.
